Responsible Product Disposal
Panacea has extended the product support until the End-of-Life of our products. We endorse responsible decommissioning of radiation equipments through appropriate recycling, reuse and rework/refurbish of materials from the machine. Adverse effect on the environment can be minimized through proper disposal and maximum utilization of materials after end-of-life of the product. In light of that, Panacea products are constructed with materials that are 95% recyclable. Our high degree of commitment to circular economy is achieved through this end-of–life disposal support.
Depending on the type of waste generated after disassembling a medical device, it is crucial to segregate and can either be disposed or reused or recycled based on the process. The disassembled product waste are E-waste or a Radioactive waste or a metal waste. However, proper disposal of any kind of waste is highly imperative. E-Waste is regarded as hazardous and must undergo proper disposal, while disposal of radioactive waste is managed by a disposal agency.
Radioactive Waste :
Radioactive wastes must be sent to a disposal agency to ensure safe disposal complying with transport regulation and appropriate warnings – radioactive material warning.
A disposal agency for radioactive sources can be;
▪ An Original supplier of the existing decayed source for imported sources, or
▪ The Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai for sources that are locally supplied.
Panacea ensures safe decommissioning and transportation of radioactive waste to BRIT in compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory standards through its extended support to customers for the diposal.
E-Waste : Negative Impact to Environment:
The various negative impacts caused by the improper disposal of E-Waste as follows:
Soil Pollution: If E-Waste disposed or decomposed into soil it pollutes and degrade the soil quality by contaminating it , which in turn results in affecting plant growth and crop yield .
Water Pollution: The toxic content present in the Electronic items contaminate the water . This affects the aquatic life and impacts human life to danger by causing several diseases if contaminated water used for any drinking purpose.
Air Pollution: Many harmful gases are released into the air during the disposal of electronic waste and recycling it. These harmful gases that are released increase air pollution and contamination of the air. Inhalation of such contaminated air can result in respiratory disorders for all living beings.
Climate Change : E-waste pollution also affects the environment which affects the climatic conditions and the environmental life cycle that results in ozone layer depletion and greenhouse gas emissions.
Contribute to Circular Economy :
A Circular Economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products to the greatest extent possible. Ensuring proper disposal of E-Waste can contribute to a sustainable environment and recycling /reuse of the EEE items can foster the development of a circular economy.
It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure proper and environmental friendly disposal of the EEE items using well-defined process.
E-Waste Management & EPR Obligations:
Panacea Medical Technologies Pvt Ltd is authorized under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR, E-Waste) rules by CPCB, where Panacea has made a commitment to responsibly collect Electrical and Electronic Equipment waste components that can be recycled through the appropriate channels. Upon the service completion of an installed machine, our Panacea team co-ordinates the machine’s decommissioning and involves the responsible collection and disposal of Waste materials (E-Waste, Radioactive Materials, Metal Waste). E-Waste are collected from the customer side and processed for recycling or disposal of waste under PMT’s EPR obligation.
